How To Get Rid Of Smoker's Lines In 9 Easy Steps

Face Wrinkles Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Your brow? Smooth as a baby’s bottom. Your jawline? Tight and wrinkle-free. What about your upper lip?

If you’re like many women, you may have small, vertical lines forming just above your mouth. These are called smoker’s lines, and they’re the worst. Even if you don’t smoke, you can still fall victim to smoker’s lines!

Before you start freaking out, just relax and remember that you’re getting ready to learn how to get rid of smoker’s lines in 9 easy steps!

The beauty experts at SiO are here to save the day. We’ll start by explaining exactly what smoker’s lines are and what causes them. Then we’ll reveal the 9 best ways to naturally turn those devilish wrinkles into smooth, beautiful skin again!

      What Are Smoker’s Lines?

Regrettably, there are several different types of wrinkles that can form around your mouth. For instance, laugh lines (aka smile lines) are the folds that run from the sides of your nose down to the edges of your mouth. These are not the same as smoker’s lines, which can also be called lip lines.

So what exactly are smoker’s lines? They’re the tiny vertical wrinkles that form on the top of your upper lip and run upward toward your nose.

Most of the time, smoker’s lines are extremely small, but many of them can form at once. It’s terrifying!

But you know what the scariest part about smoker’s lines is? You can get them even if you’ve never smoked a single cigarette in your whole life.

Smoker’s lines can be caused by smoking, but there are several other factors that can also help these awful little wrinkles take shape. (But don't worry—no matter what's causing your smoker's lines, SiO Beauty patches, like the Super LipLift set, can help!)

      What Causes Smoker’s Lines?

As we just mentioned, there are a number of factors that can contribute to developing smoker’s lines (it’s a pretty misleading name). Here’s a list of the most common causes.

      Smoking

We’re stating the obvious here, but smoking is a major cause of smoker’s lines. Smoking does all sorts of damage to your skin (not to mention your lungs!), so it’s no wonder that smoker’s lines might form, too.

While smoking rates have been falling for years, the CDC estimates that 13.5 percent of women in the USA were smokers in 2016.

If you’re one of those women who have yet to kick the habit, please stop now! If not for your skin, for your long-term health. It’s tough, but you can do it!

      Aging

Aging is like the Bond villain of the beauty world—no matter what type of wrinkle or blemish we’re talking about, aging is almost certainly to blame.

From crow’s feet and frown lines to droopy eyelids and jowls, aging is pretty much the leading cause. The same is true of smoker’s lines. When we grow older, our skin doesn’t produce as much of the proteins it needs—collagen and elastin—to stay plump and smooth.

Dermatologists estimate that we lose one percent of our collagen-producing ability every year starting at age 20! So by the time you’re 50 years old, you’re only producing 70 percent as much collagen as you were when you were 20.

This is where SiO's Super LipLift comes in! If aging is the Bond villain, SiO Beauty patches are a charming 007 in a striking black-tie suit.

Made from the finest medical-grade silicone available, SiO Beauty patches create a microclimate on the surface of your skin that boosts moisture and encourages maximum collagen production. The result is smoother skin with fewer wrinkles!

      DNA

We know it’s not fair. Some ladies—who we assume are distant descendants of Aphrodite—age so gracefully that they keep smooth, dewy skin well into their 50s and 60s. And then there are the rest of us mere mortal women who get wrinkles.

For better or for worse, your skin type and the way your skin ages depend largely on your genes. So if you’ve got smoker’s lines and you’ve never smoked, feel free to blame your DNA.

      Damage From UV Rays

Yet another common culprit in the beauty world, damage from the sun’s UV rays is something we’re all aware of.

When sunlight hits your skin, UV rays penetrate your skin cells. This leaves you with older, sun-worn skin and little wrinkles like smoker’s lines. Yikes! That’s why sunscreen is so important.

      Diet

Last but not least, the foods you eat have an impact on your skin. Lots of junk food can lead to a lack of nutrients, which means your skin cells aren’t getting the vitamins and minerals they need.

When your skin cells aren’t adequately nourished, it’s way easier for wrinkles (like smoker’s lines) to appear.

Get Rid Of Smoker’s Lines In 9 Easy Steps

We now present to you the 9 easiest ways to get rid of smoker’s lines ASAP!

      1) Quit Smoking

We know this tip doesn’t apply to everyone. But if you are a smoker, this is a critical step! Do everything you can to quit smoking now.

There are even prescription medications available to help smokers quit. See a physician if you’re serious about stopping for good. You’ll look and feel so much better!

      2) Practice Mouth Exercises

Yep, you read that correctly. Mouth exercises can help get rid of smoker’s lines! Here’s one effective exercise you can try:

      1. Firmly press your two index fingers just below your nostrils.

      2. Pull your upper lip down over your top layer of teeth.

      3. Open your mouth, stretching the skin above your upper lip as taut as possible.

      4. Hold this position for five seconds. Release.

Start with 20 repetitions each evening, and slowly build your way up to 50. You’ll be surprised how well this exercise works!

      3) Exfoliate Twice A Week

If exfoliating isn’t already part of your beauty routine, it’s not too late to add it! Exfoliating removes all the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin so that younger, healthier layers of skin become visible.

This means smoother, more vibrant skin! Use a gentle, natural exfoliator so that you don’t accidentally damage your delicate skin.

      4) Moisturize Regularly

Moisturizing is basically the most important thing you can do for your skin. It protects your skin and keeps your face radiant. If you’re starting to notice smoker’s lines forming, apply moisturizer no less than twice per day. It seriously helps!

      5) Use The Right Serum

While moisturizers need to be lathered on multiple times a day, a good serum one only needs to be applied once per day (typically at night). Look for a serum with powerful anti-aging ingredients, like retinol, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins B, C, and/or K.

      Kiss those smoker’s lines goodbye!

      6) Apply Sunscreen

OK, so we’ve already mentioned how much damage the sun’s UV rays can cause. The solution? An SPF 30 sunscreen.

Put some on before you leave the house in the morning—no exceptions! Even when it’s cloudy or cold, UV rays can still destroy your skin.

      7) Eat Right

Keep your skin cells healthy to get rid of smoker’s lines. This means eating plenty of anti-aging foods and superfoods and drinking at least eight cups of water per day.

It also helps to reduce your salt intake and drink alcohol in moderation. Of course, you can splurge sometimes, but try to regularly maintain a healthy diet to keep your skin glowing and smooth.

      8) Relax

You know what causes wrinkles? Stress. Want to know the best way to get rid of stress? Just relax!

We all do this in different ways—some of us like to exercise or do yoga, while others like to curl up with a good book or take a hot bath. Whatever does the trick for you, just make sure to block off some time each week for a little R&R to fight off smoker’s lines.

      9) Wear SiO Beauty Patches

SiO Beauty patches are clinically proven to increase hydration and reduce wrinkle depth while you sleep. All you need to do is apply SiO Beauty patches after you’ve finished your normal nightly skin care routine and then get your beauty sleep. You’ll wake up to smoother, younger-looking skin!
