That’s where we come in! Let the beauty pros at SiO ease your mind and help you kiss those jowls goodbye. First, we’ll explain what jowls are and what causes them. Then we’ll share the best ways to get rid of them ASAP—without Botox or surgery.
What Exactly Are Jowls?
You’ve probably heard the word “jowls” before, but you may not know exactly what it means. The term refers to sagging skin on the lower part of your face, specifically at the bottom of your cheeks and along your jawline. In some cases, this loose skin can even hang below your jawline and alter your face’s shape.
Jowls never develop overnight. In fact, the opposite is true—they develop gradually with age. You might not even spot them forming until they are fully present.
What Causes Jowls To Form?
What causes unsightly jowls to suddenly appear? Here’s a list of the most common causes.
Aging
Aging is the main cause of jowls. As you grow older, your skin simply becomes worn. Two of the most vital skin proteins—collagen and elastin—begin to break down over time. Additionally, your body doesn’t produce these proteins as easily when you’re older. All of this is a recipe for soft and saggy skin.
Skin Type
The second most common cause of jowls is having a skin type that is susceptible to loose skin. Some lucky ladies win the genetic lottery and never have to worry about drooping skin and jowls. For the rest of us, our skin will eventually lose its elasticity and begin to sag.
In addition to skin type, your facial structure plays a role in whether or not you’ll develop jowls. Some of us have narrow faces, which don’t support skin as well as facial structures with broader jawlines.
Unfortunately, there’s no formula. Different combinations of skin types and facial structures can make some women more likely to develop jowls than others.
Other Factors
While aging and skin type are the two primary causes of jowls, there are a few other things that can make your skin sag.
Sunlight
Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin, leading to wrinkles and jowls.
Weight Loss
If you’ve recently lost weight, congratulations! That’s amazing. The only drawback is that drastic weight loss can result in excess skin that droops and sags.
Smoking
No surprises here. Smoking is terrible for your skin and can cause jowls. If you’re a smoker, try to quit immediately.
Tech Neck
In today’s day and age, we’re constantly staring down at our phones, tablets, or laptops. Spending too much time with your head bent this way can cause tech neck and increase your likelihood of developing jowls.
Now that you have an idea of what causes jowls to form, let’s move on to the main event—how to make them go away!
How Do I Get Rid Of Jowls?
If you’re as serious about anti-aging and skincare as we are, you’re looking for one thing—results. So without further ado, allow us to reveal the fastest and most effective way to tighten up your cheeks and make jowls disappear for good.
SiO Beauty patches are the single most effective way to firm, tighten and prevent jowls in just one night. They’re clinically proven to improve skin hydration and reduce wrinkle depth. This means firmer, healthier skin that doesn’t droop or sag.
SiO NeckLift and Eye & Smile Lift patches are particularly powerful in the fight against jowls. The NeckLift patches tighten and firm the skin on your neck while the Eye & Smile Lift patches tighten and firm the skin around your mouth and eyes.
Wondering how SiO Beauty patches work their magic? Let us explain.
They start by creating the ideal microclimate between the patch and the surface of your skin. This works wonders in two important ways.
First, the patches pull moisture from the lower layers of your skin up to the top layers. This surge of hydration plumps your skin, preventing loose skin from sagging into jowls. Secondly, the microclimate encourages the production of collagen, the protein that keeps your skin firm. This helps eliminate both jowls and wrinkles.
The medical-grade silicone used in SiO patches makes them a favorite among skincare professionals. Dr. Dendy Engelman, a celebrity dermatologist and a SiO Medical Advisor, has seen SiO patches help countless women look and feel fabulous:
“Some of my patients call SiO "Fauxtox" because they see their wrinkles virtually disappear with usage. SiO is a wonderful tool to offer in my armamentarium against aging!”
Best of all, SiO patches are reusable and super simple to use in the convenience of your own home. After washing and drying your face at night, simply apply the patches and get a good night’s sleep. That’s all it takes to drastically improve the health and appearance of your skin!
Exercises To Treat And Prevent Jowls
When used in combination with SiO patches, facial exercises are an effective way to get rid of jowls. As the patches improve the appearance of your skin, the facial exercises will strengthen the underlying muscles.
When you strengthen your facial muscles, they expand to fill out previously saggy skin. It also becomes easier for the muscles to hold up the weight of the outer layers of skin.
Here are our four favorite exercises for treating and preventing jowls.
Exercise 1: Gentle Jawline Slap
-
With your shoulders back, tilt your chin slightly upward.
-
Use the back of your right hand to gently pat along the bottom of your jawline on the left side of your face. Continue patting for thirty seconds.
-
Now, switch to the back of your left hand and the right side of your face. Gently pat along your jawline for thirty seconds.
When doing this exercise, you should pat firmly with the back of your hand but not so hard that it hurts. You should feel a tingle but nothing more. This tingling sensation means more blood is flowing to your jawline. Increased blood flow means increased firmness and decreased droopiness.
Exercise 2: The Tilt & Chew
-
While standing, tilt your head all the way back so that you’re looking straight up.
-
Place both hands on your neck and gently pull your skin tight with your fingertips.
-
Pretend to chew for thirty seconds. You can also chew gum, but make sure to chew with exaggerated movements to really give your muscles a workout.
-
Take a short break and repeat several times. This exercise will firm up the muscles just underneath your jawline.
Exercise 3: Stretch & Smile
-
Make fists with both of your hands and place the backside of your fingers on the sides of your face. Your fists should be just below your ears, all the way on the back of your jawline.
-
Using the backs of your fingers, pull the skin on your cheeks back until it becomes tight.
-
Smile naturally, but try not to move the muscles around your eyes. You should feel the muscles on your jaw and around your mouth contracting.
-
Repeat this exercise 50 times.
Exercise 4: The Toothless Grin
-
Lift your lower teeth as high as you can and roll your bottom lip over your top lip.
-
While you keep your bottom lip over your top lip, try to form a smile.
-
Hold this position for 10 seconds.
-
Rest for a few seconds and repeat the exercise. Try to do 10 repetitions.
Aim to perform these exercises for 5-10 minutes in the morning, and then another 5-10 minutes before you go to bed. At first, you may feel a bit silly but stick with them and you’ll start to see results.
We know all too well that loose skin and jowls can be more than a little worrisome. Luckily, with SiO Beauty patches and these easy exercises, you can look and feel fantastic in no time! Say goodnight to jowls and good morning to firmer, tighter skin.
