A Natural Neck Lift
Whether you’re on the street, in a coffee shop, or at home, if you look around you’ll probably find someone hunched over their phone right now. You probably know the constant motion of looking down at your computer affects your posture, but did you also know it affects your skin too? The repeated movement of craning of our necks to look down at technology can cause the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Don’t throw away your phone and move to the middle of the woods just yet! Neck wrinkles are inevitable with age, sun exposure, and gravity, but there are many noninvasive ways to keep your neck smooth. You’ll go from turkey to swan with these simple steps.
Non-Invasive Options
Neck-ercisesIt’s time to head to the neck gym. Exercising your neck and facial muscles once or twice a day can strengthen and tighten loose skin on the neck. The best part is all you need is your neck! Try these exercises from the comfort of your own home.
The Cow Chewing Its Cud
Step 1: Sit in a chair with your back straight.
Step 2: Lift your head back so your chin is towards the ceiling with your lips closed.
Step 3: Make a chewing motion with your mouth (like a cow).
Step 4: Do this for about 20 seconds as you feel your neck and facial muscles being worked.
The Kiss
Step 1: Sit in a chair with your back straight.
Step 2: Lift your head back with your chin facing the ceiling.
Step 3: Close your lips and pout your lips into a kissy face.
Step 4: Repeat a few times.
Drink More Water
After you’ve worked out your neck, make sure you’re keeping hydrated. It is recommended to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. When you are dehydrated, so is your skin. Water helps keep your skin looking full and plump and can help reduce the look of those pesky neck wrinkles. Try eating water-dense foods throughout the day to get your water fix. Cucumbers, berries, watermelon, lettuce, celery, and peaches are all great choices to give you that extra boost of hydration. If you’re not a water fan, try adding something fun to your glass like cucumbers or strawberries. The added ingredient will give you a great taste and those extra antioxidants won’t hurt either!
Stay Out of The Sun
Nothing feels better than a stroll through the sunshine, feeling its warm rays touch your skin, but nothing feels worse than a terrible sunburn or skin damage. You might not see it immediately, but over time the sun’s ultraviolet rays can damage the elasticity of your skin and cause wrinkles and dark spots. Damaging UV rays can even penetrate through windows. Make sure you apply sunscreen every day to your face, neck, and chest. Don’t be shy about it! Spread a liberal amount on your neck and reapply every two hours. For extra credit, find a sunscreen with added moisturizer to keep your skin extra hydrated. If you’re looking for extra protection, try wearing a thin scarf specially made to protect against those harmful UV rays.
SiO Beauty Medical-Grade Silicone Patches
Go from turkey to swan with the SiO NeckLift silicone patch. For years, silicone has been used by doctors, derms and plastic surgeons to treat burns and scars. Founder, Gigi Howard realized the healing powers of silicone and created a line of silicone patches to give you targeted results in just one night. The NeckLift patch is easy to apply, comfortable, and it’s even reusable (up to 15 times!). Place the patch on your neck before you go to bed and wake up to a smoother, uplifted neck in the morning. Sleep soundly knowing your patch is doing all the work for you. The patch encourages repair and helps firm the skin on your neck and erase lines and wrinkles. It also works to rehydrate and plump, all while you are asleep. You’ll see results overnight and over time as you continue to use the patch. After each use, just place it back in the enclosed safety shield.

Invasive Options
Surgery
So what exactly is a necklift? After undergoing anesthesia, an incision is made behind the ears and under the chin and neck fat is removed either through liposuction or surgical excision. The surgeon will remove excess skin, fat, or muscle, and contour the neck for the desired shape. After surgery, swelling and bruising are normal and it typically takes about 2 weeks to fully recover. The feeling of tightness in the neck may last a few months. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks to be considered, including infection, scarring, nerve damage, persistent pain, numbness, and even temporary or permanent hair loss along where the incisions were made. A necklift does not stop the aging process and it’s important to note that unsatisfactory results may require additional surgery. You’re looking at a hefty bill and lots of time spent at the doctor’s office. According to 2016 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average necklift costs $4,528. That fee does not include the costs associated with anesthesia, operating room fees, or related expenses.
Botox(R)
If you’re not afraid of needles, Botox may seem like another option. A doctor injects this neurotoxin into the neck to smooth out thick neck bands. The cost may be anywhere from $200-800 per session depending on how many injections the doctor needs to make. It is important to remember the neck can be very delicate and one has to be very careful not to damage or injure the neck. If Botox is injected too deeply, the ability to swallow or move the head may be affected. Other risks of Botox include flu-like symptoms and pain, swelling, or bruising at the site of the injection. Less common, it is also possible for the botulinum toxin to spread to other parts of the body and cause botulism like symptoms. All that risk for a result that’s only going to last between 4-6 months? We say skip the surgery and explore noninvasive options that will keep your wallet and your neck happy.
Chin up! Add these few extra steps into your daily routine and you’ll feel smoother in no time. Take the time each day to exercise your neck, drink an extra glass of H20, and slather on some sunscreen. At the end of the day, throw on SiO’s NeckLift patch, and you can say goodbye to your worries and so long to your turkey neck.
