Wrinkles are never fun, especially when they’re in a prominent area like your forehead. Forehead wrinkles, also known as brow furrows, can betray your age at just one glance. Perhaps worst of all, brow furrows can be incredibly difficult to treat because the skin is so thin and delicate.
But you shouldn’t have to keep inventing new ways to hide those ridges on your forehead. SiO Beauty’s experts will show you how six simple changes in your daily routine can help fight brow furrows and give you the smooth, healthy skin you’ve been looking for.
1. Eat Healthy Foods
Eating healthy foods is one of the best things you can do to fight wrinkles, not just on your forehead, but all over your body. It’s also one of the simplest. Your skin gets the moisture and nutrients it needs to function properly from the food and drink you consume. So just cleaning up your diet by eating less of the bad and more of the good can go a long way to smoothing out brow furrows. But what are the “good” foods we’re talking about? It’s not a long list:
- Lean protein like chicken and fish
- Healthy fats like nuts and olive or coconut oil
- Vegetables like broccoli, spinach, and kale
- Fruits like apples, blueberries, and mango
You’ll notice that there are no processed or sugary foods like chips, soda, and pastries mentioned on this list. That’s for good reason: those foods are loaded with chemicals and sugar. Not only do they affect your skin for the worse, they can also lead to significant health problems like diabetes and obesity. If you’re not used to eating a healthy diet, we suggest getting started by replacing one meal with items from the list above. Try building a smoothie with almond milk, strawberries, blueberries, banana, spinach, and kale. Serve with a side of almonds or walnuts and you’ve got a healthy breakfast that will start your day out right.
2) Drink Plenty Of Water
While food is important to keep you and your skin healthy, water is absolutely essential. Consider the fact that you can survive up to three weeks without food, but only three days without water. Even if you drink water every day, you may not be getting enough to keep your skin fully hydrated. This is because your skin is one of the last organs to reap the benefits of the water you consume.
So to give your skin the best chance to stay smooth and supple, we recommend drinking at least eight cups of water every day. Though this may sound like a lot, it’s really not. Here’s a simple two-step schedule for fitting it all in:
- Drink two cups of water with breakfast, lunch, and dinner (that’s six cups!).
- Sip on a water bottle between meals (that two more cups!).
It’s just that easy.
3) Massage Your Forehead to Soften Brow Furrows
As you know, the skin on your forehead is very thin. But did you know there’s actually a muscle sandwiched between your skin and the frontal bone of your skull? It’s true. “What does that have to do with brow furrows?”. It means that a massage can be used to increase blood flow to the area, loosen tightness in the muscle, and stimulate and repair damaged tissue. All of these things combined can work to make your skin smoother than it was before. Oh, and let’s not forget that it just feels good! Here’s a short ten-minute massage you can perform anywhere, anytime.
- Apply a teaspoon of coconut oil or olive oil to your forehead and fingers. This oil is mainly to prevent friction and pulling.
- Gently massage your brow furrows with small circular motions for ten minutes.
- Feel free to wash off the oil when you’re finished, but you can also leave it on for extended repair and healing.
Massages of this type are safe enough that they can be done every day to treat existing brow furrows and prevent new ones from forming.
4) Exercise Your Forehead Muscle
Weak muscles can lead to sagging skin. Sagging skin leads to wrinkles. Working backward then, you can treat and prevent wrinkles like brow furrows by strengthening your muscles. And how do you strengthen your muscles? With exercise. Even the thin muscle on your forehead can be strengthened with a quick and easy exercise. Here’s how to do it:
- Lower your eyebrows as far as you can (like you’re angry).
- Hold this position for five seconds.
- Raise your eyebrows as far as you can (like you’re surprised).
- Hold this position for five seconds.
That’s one rep. Do fifteen reps every day.
5) Add Supplements To Your Diet
Sometimes, even eating healthy foods like the ones outlined above can be deficient in some pretty important vitamins and minerals. That’s why we suggest adding certain skin-smoothing supplements to your daily diet. Those supplements include:
- Collagen
- Vitamin C
- Flaxseed oil
Collagen is a big part of the support structure that keeps you skin smooth and wrinkle-free. Unfortunately, that collagen can begin to breakdown as you age. That can lead to unsightly brow furrows and other wrinkles.
Collagen and elastin can also be damaged by free radicals deep within your skin. Vitamin C acts as a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes these free radicals and preserves the support structure that prevents wrinkles.
Another major cause of collagen breakdown is inflammation. Inflammation can be caused by a variety of factors including sun exposure, airborne toxins, and even chemicals in your diet. Flaxseed oil contains omega-3 fatty acids that function as antioxidants to combat this inflammation.
These supplements come in many forms from powders to liquids to pills. We recommend the pill form because it’s easy to consume and take with you when you’re on the go.
6) Silicone Patches
By far the best treatment and prevention for brow furrows is silicone skin patches. These treatments were first used by physicians and surgeons to heal deep burns and scars. They were so successful, the science was put to use healing regular, undamaged skin.
Silicone skin patches work by creating a microclimate between the patch and the skin. This microclimate pulls moisture from the lower layers of skin, and from the air around the patch, and focuses it next to the epidermis where it can do the most good. When worn at night, it’s like soaking your skin in moisture for eight to ten hours. This level of hydration can produce noticeable results in just one night and over time.
We recommend the SiO Beauty BrowLift silicone patch because it’s specifically designed to cover the skin from temple to temple and from your hairline to 11s. No brow furrows can hide with that kind of coverage! And if you need help treating and preventing wrinkles on other parts of your face, neck, and décolleté, SiO Beauty has got you covered. We offer silicone patches to help correct and prevent wrinkles from brow to bust:
Simply cleanse the skin with an oil-free cleanser, dry completely, wear the patch(es) of your choice while you sleep, and then apply a moisturizing serum in the morning. Real results are just that easy!
