Beauty and skincare companies have a passionate love affair with before and after photos. No matter how hard they try, the beauty world just can’t quit these photos. And you already know the kind we’re talking about—the ones that make you wonder how a person can magically transform in such a drastic way.
The first photo will show a woman with droopy eyelids and dark bags under her eyes. She has crow’s feet, frown lines, and all sorts of beauty blemishes.
In the second photo, there’s that same woman…but with gorgeous, perfect skin! No wrinkles, no bags—just smooth skin for days. She’s glowing like an angel, and her skin is so radiant that you just might need sunglasses to look directly at her.
So how exactly did this miraculous beauty transformation happen? Is it really the same person in both pictures? Have the beauty gods suddenly answered our long-lasting prayers? Or have the images been secretly altered and we’re unknowingly on the wrong end of an evil corporation’s overarching ambitions?
In this article, we will reveal all the dirty little secrets that companies use to trick unsuspecting customers so you can be a pro at spotting fake before and after photos in no time! But first, we’ll show you why you can trust our before and after photos so that when you buy SiO Beauty products, you’ll already know exactly what you’re getting.
Why Should You Believe SiO Beauty’s Before And After Photos?
Now that you know how misleading before and after photos can be, you’re probably wondering why SiO Beauty would be any different. Why should you trust our before and after photos?
We’re glad you asked! Let us fill you in.
The photos below are of Gigi Howard’s décolleté. If you didn’t already know, Gigi is the Founder of SiO Beauty. The photos show the real results produced by SiO Beauty SkinPad patches. These photos were taken with an iPhone, at the same angle and with similar lighting. They haven’t been retouched or edited in any way.
And frankly, they don’t need to be. We think the results speak for themselves! But this isn’t the only evidence that our products are effective.
SiO Beauty medical-grade silicone patches have been clinically proven to reduce roughness, wrinkle depth, and photodamage caused by the sun’s harmful UV rays. In a clinical trial performed under dermatological supervision, we tested SiO Beauty products on 200 women.
The results? Most women noticed a visible difference in their skin after just one night. But we didn’t simply measure how women felt about our products—we also closely examined their skin. We found that SiO Beauty patches increase hydration, reduce wrinkles, and repair damaged skin.
Additionally, we are dermatologically proven, as seen in the above Univision segment where before and after images were taken of an actual patient.
SiO Beauty also has our very own dermatologist, who treats an exclusive roster of celebrity patients, to make sure that our products provide real results—not just convincing before and after photos. Dr. Dendy Engelman, a NYC-based dermatologist with decades of expertise, is our Senior Medical Adviser. Here’s what Dr. Dendy says about SiO Beauty skin patches:
“For patients that are hesitant to use injectables, such as Botox, that prevent wrinkles, SiO Beauty patches are the closest, most effective at-home alternative solution. These patches correct existing wrinkles and prevent new wrinkles from forming over time.”
Dr. Dendy also tells us that some of her “patients call SiO ‘Fauxtox’ because they see their wrinkles virtually disappear with usage.” That says it all, doesn’t it?
When we say our products produce real results, we mean it! So what more proof to do you need? Try SiO Beauty patches and see for yourself!
How To Tell If Before And After Photos Are Real Or Fake
So If SiO Beauty’s before and after photos are trustworthy, why aren’t the photos of other companies? And how can you tell if they’re real or not?
While there are no foolproof methods for spotting fake before and after photos, there are specific things you can look for. Here are the usual suspects.
Digital Editing
It’s no secret that virtually every photograph published in the beauty world has been digitally edited. Even we at SiO Beauty occasionally use Photoshop or other methods to enhance our images—but never on our before and after photos.
Because of how heavily edited many other beauty brands’ photos have become, celebrities have started speaking out against egregious image editing. In some cases, publishers have retracted their edits and released the original photos.
In September 2017, France even passed a law that requires a warning label to appear on any image that was edited before being published. The label will simply read photographie retouchée, or “edited photograph.”
Because photo editors have become digital-enhancement wizards, it can be tough to know when and how an image has been altered. A good rule of thumb is this: if a photo doesn’t look believable, it’s probably not. So if a pair of before and after photos seems fishy, trust your instincts. There’s probably some funny business going on behind the scenes.
Lighting
You’d be surprised by the difference that good lighting can make in a photograph. With low lighting, shadows are naturally overly dramatic. Shadows draw attention to wrinkles, which will appear much darker than the rest of your skin’s surface. The same is true of bags and dark circles under your eyes.
On the other hand, when a photo is taken with superb lighting, blemishes seem to magically disappear. Good lighting also helps by artificially filling in all those little lines and creases, leaving you with the appearance of healthier, smoother skin.
And that’s not all. Dark spots stand no chance against a professional photographer and a good set of lights. So if you see before and after photos with radically different lighting, it’s time to be suspicious.
Photo Angle
Most women know how important the angle of a photo is. For example, photos taken from a lower vantage point—that have an upward angle to your face—are less flattering. Photos taken from higher up make your face and body look thinner. That’s why we all hold our phones up high when taking selfies!
If we’ve figured out this trick, then professional beauty photographers definitely understand how to use camera angles to make women appear more glamorous. But before and after photos should never be shown at different angles!
If a company is serious about showing the results of their products, they should always have the same camera angle (and lighting) in both the before and the after photo.
Body Position
The last little trick used by the pros to deceive unsuspecting buyers is body position. For example, when your body’s turned slightly from the waist up, the skin on your stomach looks tighter. Check out the before and after photo below to see what we mean.
The same is true for your face. When your chin is tilted up, the skin on your jawline and around your mouth is pulled tight. This makes your skin appear smoother than it normally would.
For before and after photos to be trustworthy, the position of the subject’s body should be exactly the same in both photos.
So there you have it—the dirty truth about before and after photos! Just keep these four secrets in mind, and you’ll be able to spot fake before and after photos a mile away.
